Interview: Write or Die Podcast with THE Claribel Ortega

UPDATE: Episode now available for download, or streaming @ Write or Die. Click here!

I’m going to be the guest of episode 4 of the Write or Die Podcast, hosted by THE ONE AND ONLY Claribel Ortega! The episode will be out this Friday, May 18th! I’m delirious with excitement, but also super nervous. More on that later.

If you haven’t listened to the first 3 episodes, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Write or Die features stories about struggling in publishing and even though it’s brand new, Claribel has already managed to interview some amazing authors. We’re talking: Julie C. Dao, Isabel Sterling, and Daniel José Older. Like…omg. My actual heroes?

And now, somehow, inexplicably, me???? We recorded an entire episode together last week, before I was able to announce anything about REVERIE, and it was SO much fun that I blacked out towards the end and forgot all about it until Claribel showed up in my inbox with this incredible graphic:

Artist: Claribel Ortega. Medium: Digital canvas. Year: 2018

In this episode, we dish about all sorts of weird eccentric things I did while working on REVERIE. We cover how I got my agent, how I got a book deal, and all the strange hardships in between. We also focus on an issue of great importance to me: chronic illness.

Not a ton of people know that I’m Sick, with a capitol S. I don’t talk about it a ton because for the most part, I’m doing great, but chronic illness is a vital dimension of my identity. It intersects directly with my writing. We dig into some details of this in this podcast, but nothing graphic, so if you’re squeamish do not worry!

Also, somewhere in this episode, I soft-pitch Claribel some details on my second book! I haven’t told a soul about this book yet, but now I’m telling all of you! So tune in and do what all my friends are going to do, which is make fun of my strange laugh and the way I jumbled my words when I get too excited.

ABOUT CLARIBEL

There is no one in publishing who works harder than Claribel Ortega. The only other person in publishing who works ALMOST as hard as Claribel Ortega is me when I am trying to keep track of all the different things Claribel does.

Support Claribel by:

  • Subscribing to the Write or Die Podcast via iTunes
  • Leaving a rating & review for Write or Die. (This is super easy to do via your Podcasts app on an iphone, but candidly I couldn’t figure out how to do it on a laptop. lol).
