"I loved what Ryan had to say about the power of transformation in anime and in drag, living with chronic illness, and the motivating power of spite. "

BIOGRAPHY

Ryan grew up in a quaint suburb of Connecticut with his three siblings and three parents. He studied Anthropology and Neuroscience at Northeastern University in Boston, but then he grew out of his sciency phase, got serious, and started writing books about drag queen sorceresses and costume contests.

It worked out, though. In addition to being selected as a Barnes & Noble YA Book Club pick, Ryan’s first book REVERIE was also a Readerlink Book Buzz pick for December, a Kids’ Indie Next List selection for Winter 2020, a YA Book of the Month pick, and an Amazon Best YA Book of December editor pick, and a Big Library Read (Overdrive) .

Ryan credits his writing journey to Gwen Stefani’s song “What You Waiting For?” in which she interogates the listeners passivity with the line “Take that chance you stupid [redacted].” He’s been taking chances since, at least several a year, and it’s lead him here.

    • Kasia!!!!!

I’m so that you’ve found me! I was in Bosnia last summer too, in Sarajevo and Bana Luka and a few other places. It was glorious. 🙂 Where were you?

Medicine?! Go you! That’s awesome. You’re always so phenomenal. And please get in touch when you’re in the US! I would love to see you, even if it’s for just a bit.

      <3 Ryan

  2. I just saw your interview on the CosplayInAmerica video with Ejen, and so of course I had to go preorder your book, but I’m confused by the description you gave of the book in the video and the goodreads description of the book on the website are complete opposites? Is the cosplay book a separate thing still in the works? Where can I find that?

    • Hi Petunia! The book I spoke to Ejen doesn’t come out for another year! It’s in edits right now with my publisher. My convo with Ejen is actually the first time I’ve talked publicly about it 🙂

If you want to keep track of it, it’ll be added to my site once I have more details about the publishing schedule. It’ll also take the spot of this book on Goodreads, here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40131449-untitled

  3. Hi Ryan just wanted to let you you you know me and my best freind Lilly have written a sequel to Reverie. We would be thrilled to share these with you, but if you publish it me and Lilly want credit. It is full of fantasy, romance and mystery email me for a sneak peak.

    • How wonderful! I say you go ahead and post it to Ao3 or something, and that way you and Lilly get all the credit you deserve on your writing 🙂
